REFLECTIONS
24.10.2024 - 30.12.2024 (Week 1 - Week 14)
EXPERIENCES
This module has broaden my horizons on what typography means; it's essential, you see it everywhere, yet people overlook its importance in the world. This module really tested my work ethics as a designer, and I've come to a conclusion: Typography is a very niche area of design, and it's truly something to explore. I hope in the future I would have more chances to explore as much as I did with this module.
OBSERVATION
Observing how my own handwriting translated into a digital typeface also gave me new respect for typographers. What seemed like a straightforward task—drawing letters—turned into a complex process of refining shapes to ensure consistency while preserving the handwritten, authentic vibe I wanted. Through this assignment, I also saw how typography plays an integral role in conveying personality and emotion, especially when considering its use in zines, social media posts, and comics.
FINDINGS
Through this module, I discovered how much thought and precision goes into type design. One of my key findings was that creating a handwritten font is not just about replicating handwriting—it involves making subtle adjustments for balance, legibility, and consistency. For example, ensuring that characters like "b" and "d" mirror each other or maintaining consistent stroke widths across the alphabet made a significant difference in achieving a cohesive typeface.
I also learned how essential typography is for communication. Each letterform can convey a specific emotion or tone, especially in handwritten fonts, which are more personal and expressive. This became clear when I began to see how the font’s application in zines or comics could influence the reader’s experience by adding personality and emotion to the text.
Another important finding was how critical spacing and kerning are to overall readability. Initially, my font felt crowded, but adjusting the space between letters improved its flow. These small details highlighted the technical and artistic balance required in typography.

As I am much more to storytelling, I've decided to come up with a story and then decide on the possible game mechanics to make my game more interesting. My thinking process to start is to find: Subject Location Objective Inspirations & References Alice in Wonderland (themes, but with changed names/characters for originality). Slenderman: The Eight Pages as a mechanic...

Game design blends creativity, psychology, storytelling, and technical skills to craft interactive experiences with purpose. Key Takeaways: 1. Player Experience Great games are designed around the player. Emotions, immersion, and flow are central. Using frameworks like PLEX (Playful Experiences), designers identify different emotional goals such as excitement, challenge, imagination, or social bonding. 2. ...
