REFLECTIONS
In Task 2, I proposed FamiliAR, a mobile AR experience designed to support mental wellness through calming interactions and ambient engagement. The app concept was grounded in a clear emotional need to help users feel more present and at ease. It explored how augmented reality could make that process more tangible by linking mindfulness practices to familiar, everyday objects.
One of the proposal’s strengths was its integration of environment and emotion, where scanning an object initiated a personalized breathing ritual, supported by audio and visual cues. The idea of allowing users to walk and discover ambient sounds also added variety to the experience while maintaining the core wellness theme.
Writing the proposal helped me clarify the flow of interaction, the emotional journey of the user, and the potential technical challenges. The breakdown into StillMode and WalkMode was useful for scoping the experience into achievable parts. However, I realized that while the concept was ambitious, it required careful planning to ensure the AR components (like tracking, audio sync, and UI transitions) could all work smoothly on mobile.
Overall, the proposal set a strong thematic and experiential direction. What I needed most after this stage was to translate the emotional goals into minimum viable interactions, so I could move forward with confidence into Task 3 development.
