LEARNINGS AND REFLECTIONS
Week 1: Introduction to AR & Blog Setup
We were introduced to the experiential design module and the
importance of AR in spatial storytelling. I appreciated the emphasis
on user experience as a core part of AR design. Setting up the blog
also made me more aware of how I’ll be documenting my learning over
time. Mr Razif showed us examples from past students, giving us an
idea of what's to come for the next 14 weeks.
Week 2: Customer Journey Map
We were introduced what does XR or MR meant, and we were taught to
think beyond the box; by doing a group activity in class where we
figured a problem together and solve using Customer Journey Map and
also doing a future one. I specifically had fun with this because my
teammates were quite helpful in figuring out the key issues in the
journey, the pain points and gain points.
Week 3: AR Demonstration + AR Experience Activity (Absent)
Even though I was absent, I tried to see what my classmates were
doing and decided to work on the activity on my own. I discovered
once again how to differentiate AR vs MR and how extended
visualisation can help in different scenarios in everyday life (like
Kitchen, Gym and Mall). I also tried the Google / Mayamode AR
feature at home to practice.
Week 4: Affordances in UX (Online Video, Public Holiday)
As it was a public holiday, I watched the video Mr Razif posted on
MyTimes explaining what affordances in UX means. It helped me to think
more on how I interacted with everyday design (how often I pulled a door
that had a handle and pushed a door that didn't have handles) and
compare it to digital design (e.g buttons needs to have hover
effects/interactive elements to show to users that they are about to
click on the button) and it made me understood how we as human tend to
prefer using designs.

INSTRUCTIONS
According to the Module Information Booklet
(MIB), we are to:
-
Explore current AR trends through hands-on exercises
to understand different technologies and their
limitations. This process helps them decide which
tools to use for their final project.
- Complete all exercises
- Write a reflective blog post
- Propose three AR project ideas.

CLASS ACTIVITIES:
Week 2: Customer Journey Map
In class, we paired up as a group and came up with a Customer Journey
Map. Benjamin, Me and Abigail initially came up with an idea around
Taylor's Car Park but then ran into problems when coming up with
potential AR Solutions, Benjamin then suggested the Library, and we
went off with that.
You can see both the Current Customer Journey Map and Future
Journey Map
here:
You could see that there were a lot of pain points in just
searching for a book to borrow from the library. The experience was
fresh to me because I just borrowed a few book from the library not too
long ago either.

Map
Mr Razif commented that we should try and test out Taylor's Library with
AR one day during the class activity. I'm looking forward for this
because it would actually help me to understand to see if the
journey/experience has improved! We had a lot of fun working on this.
Vuforia + Unity Image Tracking Tutorial
We had to watch a tutorial video by Mr Razif on how to set up Vuforia and also do some basic image tracking tutorials.
First, we sign up on Vuforia, then download the latest update that pairs with Unity. Then, we opened a Database that allowed us to upload an image where it would also rate based off the "recognisable" image (which is very cool!)We placed a cube on top of our selected picture, saved TWICE (because it's how our project will be saved) and then hit play to interact with our creation.

Week 3: AR Demonstration + AR Experience Activity (Absent)
I was absent this week, but I went through the lecture slides and
understood that we had a few tasks we had to do. First, we had to
differentiate AR vs MR and mention the reasons of why we think it's
either. Then, we had to try out Google / Mayamode's AR features. As
I wasn't in class, I tried to do it at home. Because I was
using iOS, Google only allowed to let me view animals in 3D, but not
for AR live.
However, because I wanted to see how it would've looked on my phone
regardless, I went on to
AR Quick Look instead and this is what I got:
I also tried with past senior's Mayamode Barbie figurines

AR Proposal Ideas
For this task, I specifically had one thing in my mind which was mental health as I really enjoy apps like Headspace which offers guided meditation and mental wellness. I feel like incorporating ideas like this would help a lot of users who needs to breathe to regulate themselves. I also had another idea, which is storybook telling, but I'm not sure if the idea is strong enough. But here is the proposal document:
