Assignment 2 started out as a clear, linear process where we refine the concept from Task 1, define the target audience, map the information architecture, list features, and build wireframes. But midway through, Mr Sylvain arrived, so there was some differences. Instead of jumping straight into app ideation, we had to pause and go deeper into primary research before design even began.
The new deliverables, conducting 5 interviews, creating affinity maps, building personas from real insights, mapping detailed user journeys, and then prioritizing features with MoSCoW, helped me to slow down and truly listen to user stories before making design decisions. It was a big shift from my usual method, where I would quickly generate solutions based on assumptions.
The most challenging part was letting go of my pre-set concept flow and revisiting the fundamentals with fresh eyes. But this also became the most valuable part! I learned how affinity mapping can reveal hidden user needs, how personas become more authentic when grounded in real quotes, and how journey mapping connects pain points directly to opportunities. By the time I reached the MVP and Impact vs Effort stage, my design vision felt more evidence-driven, justified, and user-centred.
Looking back, Assignment 2 taught me that good UX means moving in the right direction. The added research steps didn’t just make the project stronger, they gave me a more disciplined, empathetic approach that I hope to carry forward into the next assignments.
