INSTRUCTIONS

IDEATION

For this Stop Motion project, I am planning to create an existential horror theme about living. Here are three stop motion videos I've watched that contains similar feelings:

My Little Goat - Tomoki Misato

This animation speaks about how abuse can come from anyone at home, and that the mother goat accepted a human in exchange of the ones she's lost, proving that humanity is once again the destroyer of worlds. I especially loved how each goat had their own personalities, and the depiction of the intestines were fascinating, especially the use of materials.

Look At Me Only - Tomoki Misato

Another good usage of felt animation by Tomoki Misato, this animation touches on the insecurities of women whose partner is subjected to societal beauty standard but in turn becomes a monster herself. Loved how creepy this was, and I would never want to play my phone in front of my date ever again.

Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 4

I have to put this video up despite it being a mixed media of puppetry, CGI, Stop Motion animation all in one. Heaven knows I'm a big big fan of this franchise (I am so obsessed I can literally sing this anytime) and DHMIS (for short) has been my beck and call. If I were to do animation in the future, it would definitely be inspired from this series. If you like psychological horror with gore yet in a nursery rhyme, this is for you. I genuinely think this series has made a part of my identity growing up.

Medium: I plan to use normal clay as it is more versatile, and easier to manipulate for scenes.

Solo or Group: As I have a solid vision on my story, I plan to work on it as a solo.

FINAL OUTCOME

REFLECTIONS

The stop-motion project was one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences of this course. It required immense patience and attention to detail, as each frame needed to be carefully crafted to ensure smooth transitions. Stop motion forced me to think creatively about how to convey movement and emotion using minimal changes between frames. I learned that even the smallest adjustments can make a big difference in the fluidity and feel of the animation. This project also taught me the importance of pre-planning, as every frame counts in stop motion, and consistency is key. The process of creating a story through stop motion helped me develop a new level of discipline in animation and gave me a deep appreciation for the art form. It’s a meticulous but highly rewarding way to bring ideas to life.
